Cyborg Enables Color-Blind Artist To Paint In Color

EyeBorg transforms life and art for the severely colorblind.
One artist Neil Harbisson says the Eyeborg, which enables him to perceive color by sound, and to literally compose paintings.

Eyeborg is a camera and laptop design which uses different frequencies of sound to transform color in front of the head-mounted lens into sound, played back to Harbisson via an earpiece. Originally a six-color device, the Eyeborg has evolved to 360 colors, giving Harbisson a great range as an visual artist.

The EyeBorg was designed by cybernetics expert, Adam Montandon, at HMC Interactive. The cyborg-visual art collaboration began three years ago. Harbisson heard Montandon lecture at Dartington College of Arts in England, when a student went up to him and asked if the gadget could also be used for the colorblind so they could paint in color.
